What "Aadhaar Verified" Means on Mafimo, and What We Never See
In short
A verified badge means the person confirmed their identity using UIDAI's Aadhaar offline verification, with data digitally signed by UIDAI. Mafimo keeps the result and limited details, encrypted, and never stores the full Aadhaar number or any biometrics. Contact details are shared only between two verified people.

Fake identities are the easiest route to matrimony fraud. Verification closes that route, but it only builds trust if people understand what it does and does not do. Here is exactly how it works on Mafimo.
The offline route, explained
UIDAI, the authority that issues Aadhaar, offers an offline verification route for services that need to confirm identity without connecting to its central database. Mafimo supports two forms of it:
- Offline e-KYC file. You download your Aadhaar offline e-KYC file from UIDAI’s resident portal, protected by a share code you choose, and upload it to Mafimo.
- QR code scan. You scan the secure QR code printed on your Aadhaar card, or shown in the mAadhaar app.
In both cases, the data is digitally signed by UIDAI, so Mafimo can confirm it has not been altered. No biometrics are used, and no connection is made to UIDAI’s central database.
What a verified badge tells you
A verified badge means the person’s identity was confirmed from UIDAI-signed data, and their details were checked against their profile. It confirms who someone is.
It does not confirm their intentions, their job or every detail on their profile. Keep doing your own checks before any commitment, as our guide to verifying a matrimony profile explains.
What Mafimo keeps, and what it never sees
Kept, encrypted: the verification result, name, date of birth, gender, address and photo from the Aadhaar data, and a masked number showing only the last four digits.
Never stored: the full 12-digit Aadhaar number, biometrics of any kind, or the Virtual ID.
The raw offline e-KYC file is deleted as soon as the details have been extracted. Your full address is visible only to you, or the family member who manages your profile; other users see only your district, state and postal code.
Why verification unlocks contact
On Mafimo, there is no in-app chat, and phone numbers stay hidden until both people have verified. This means someone cannot collect numbers by creating profiles, and every conversation starts between two identified people.
Your control
Verification needs your separate, explicit consent. You can withdraw it at any time from your privacy settings, which removes your verified status and deletes the stored Aadhaar data. The details are in the privacy policy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Mafimo store my Aadhaar number?
No. Only a masked number showing the last four digits is kept, for reference. The full 12-digit number is never stored.
Is Aadhaar verification compulsory?
No, but contact details are shared only between two verified people, so verification is needed to exchange phone numbers.
Can I withdraw my consent?
Yes. Withdrawing consent removes your verified status and deletes the stored Aadhaar data.
Can people abroad get verified?
Verification currently needs an Indian government-issued ID. People without one can use Mafimo without verified status.
